They have to be engage with social networking themselves; otherwise, they will not be effective educators. Our Center for Innovative Education does all it can to develop faculty skills. In my new program, we will ONLY tap faculty (both on and off-campus) who are engage with 21st c/global education. They must model this for their students, and engage them in rich, diverse, global projects. Definitely. Critical thinking in science can not be turned off when it comes to civics the following learning expectations developed by China?s Ministry of Education to guide them in curriculum and assessment design: * ability to communicate; * adaptability to change; * preparedness to solve problems; * ability to analyze and conceptualize; * ability to reflect on and improve performance; * ability to manage oneself; * ability to create, innovate, and criticize; * ability to engage in learning new things at all times; * ability to cross specialist borders; @steve is that your work in China? Of course limited "critical thinking" is wanted, as long as it serves economic interests. Adults are much less creative. We need to encourage creativity in school! but governments and corporate actors have no interest in critical and emancipated people by nature. How do you limit critical thinking? It either is or isn't. It's very binary. no... one has to encourage critical thinking! You can also just encourage critical thinking within a limited frame. The beauty of newly emerging social media is that it is borderless and has no sense of national "loyalites" I just wish we'd produce citizens that aren't so self-absorbed. I'd be happy with that.
